Naturally penile erection occurs during sexual stimulation which enlarges blood flow in the penile area as a consequence of relaxed penile arteries and corpus cavernosal smooth muscle. The erection process involves the release of nitric oxide (NO) from nerve terminals and endothelial cells, which is followed by the generation of cGMP in smooth muscle cells. Cyclic GMP produces smooth muscle loosening and improved blood flow into the corpus cavernosum. The restriction of phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) makes better erectile function by producing more cGMP.

Cialis restricts selectively PDE5 and with sexual stimulation which provokes the local release of nitric oxide, a natural erection occurs.

PDE5 is located in the smooth muscle of the corpus cavernosum, prostate, and bladder, vascular and visceral smooth muscle, skeletal muscle, platelets, kidney, lung, cerebellum, and pancreas.

The clinical studies proved that Cialis is effective in the treatment of ED in men in comparison with placebo. Cialis has a long lasting effect and shows practically no side effects.
